Edvard Munch on the beach. Naked men, photography and creativity in the turn of the twentieth century

Welcome to a lecture with the museum director Patrik Steorn about bathing as a creative environment, the male body as motif and the interaction between photography and painting in the turn of the twentieth century.

The bathing culture was blossoming in the turn of the twentieth century and attracted many artists which were in search for new motifs. Some of them used photography from the bathing as studies for paintings, while others made the beach or bathhouse their studio. Naked bodies in motion, particulary male, were painted by artists such as Edvard Munch, Eugène Jansson and JAG Acke.

The lecture will be held in Swedish

Ordinary entrance fee.
