Romance Evening. Opera soloists celebrates the Thiel Gallery's 100th anniversary
Welcome to a romancenight at the Thiel Gallery in the Salon where music meets world-class Nordic art from the turn of the century. Surrounded by works by Carl Larsson, Carl Wilhelmson, Anders Zorn and Bruno Liljefors, the song fills the room among paintings, sculptures and original furniture from the time.
The concert is performed by soloists in the bachelor's program in opera singing at the Stockholm Academy of the Arts and is part of the anniversary program for the Thiel Gallery's centennial celebration. Since the building was built in 1905–1907, the Thiel Gallery has always been a place where visual arts, literature and music have had a clear place. In 1925, the gates of the former private palace were opened to the general public for the first time.
The opera night– a hommage to the Thiel Gallery's 100th anniversary.
Ernest Thiel's own grand piano still stands in the Salon. He was not only a banker but also a poet and some of his poems were set to music by Hugo Alfvén. His most famous poem, Jag längtar dig, became Jussi Björling's best-selling recording. Akke Kumlien, an artist and one of the museum's most committed managers, also contributed to the musical legacy, as did Ulf Linde, who brought jazz into the house by playing the vibraphone in the large halls.
The evening's program is a homage to the Thiel Gallery and specially composed for the anniversary, with romances from the 1920s with composers such as Ture Rangström, Ragnar Althén and Josef Eriksson.
